Asbestos Survey & Abatement

The staff at CRB includes personnel certified under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) title II/Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) as asbestos abatement inspectors, supervisors, and management planners, and has performed numerous surveys throughout Florida, South Carolina, Massachusetts, and the east coast. CRB provides the following services:
* AHERA/OSHA asbestos surveys
* Preparation of Operations and maintenance plans
* Asbestos abatement-planning, implementation and clearance
CRB's asbestos survey experience has included industrial, commercial and residential sites. Our asbestos contractor/supervisor and inspectors have twenty-five years combined asbestos survey and abatement experience. CRB's experience has contributed to successfully surveying and abating ACMs at large-scale manufacturing plants on a timely basis.
What is Asbestos?
Asbestos, a naturally occurring material, is comprised of six (6) fibrous minerals. The most common asbestos minerals used in building materials are chrysotile, amosite, and crocidolite.
Any material containing over one percent (1%) of any type of asbestos is considered by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to be an Asbestos Containing Material (ACM).
ACMs become hazardous when disturbed or damaged and the fibers are released into the air, which can present a serious health risk.
The Asbestos Survey.
CRB's Asbestos Survey is consistent with procedures outlined in Title 40, Code of Federal regulations Part 763.86.
The asbestos survey includes:
- Identification and random sampling of each suspect ACM by CRB personnel for laboratory analysis.
- Preparation for a survey report, signed by a Licensed Asbestos Consultant, which includes a description of the ACMs, if present, and recommendations.
The survey focuses on the following historic ACMs:
- Floor, ceiling, and wall tiles and coverings
- Cement pipe and sheeting
- Pipe wrap and Thermal Systems Insulation
- Duct covering and miscellaneous mastic materials
Abatement and Operations and maintenance:
- Prior to any renovation or demolition involving ACM greater than 260 linear feet or 160 square feet, all effected ACM must be removed pursuant to the National Emissions Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants.
- If the ACMs are to be abated or removed, CRB contracts and supervises abatement activities, and performs final air clearance analysis.
- If the ACMs are left in place, CRB will develop an Operations & Maintenance (O&m0 plan to minimize the release of asbestos fibers into the air and reduce the health risk.
